FEBRUARY 22 – LUNCHEON-MEETING
William ‘Bill’ Self
writer, international toastmaster, poet & talk-show host
“LIES HISTORY HAS TAUGHT US”
This presentation is a plea for truth, particularly the truth of American Black history. That February is Black History Month, made official in 1976 by President Gerald Ford and which began in 1926 as Black History Week, begs the question, “Why is ANY history relegated to one week or one month a year?”
The lessons of race-based slavery in the U.S. have knowingly taught us that it is appropriate for the strong to be on top because the strong appear smarter, while armed with lies. Mr. Self will shine a light on the cumulative effect of these lies and omissions that metastasize like a cancer.
Through his life journey, Bill Self learned that human nature is as strong as it is weak, grace trumps beauty, and the harvest principle is the scale of human existence. His journey began as a child in Central America. He experienced the hellish jungles of Vietnam, revelations in Africa, and, of course, the magic inherent in Hawaii. He raised his children on Kauai, started a martial arts school, opened an appraisal business, taught at the community college and developed and hosted a talk show. His journey continues on Oahu, where he appraises, speaks, acts and writes.
Attend the February 22 Professional Women’s Network luncheon. Meet W.E. ‘Bill’ Self. Learn why we must listen more closely to our past or there will be no tomorrows. You will also have the opportunity to buy an autographed copy of W.E. Self’s latest book, 9th Street Chronicles; a portion of the proceeds to benefit PWN’s Alex Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Members: Bring your business cards and a guest.
You just might win a free luncheon to be used in February.
